This is what I did yesterday to finalize the Victory Day weekend. A day at the beach was the perfect start to my week :)

Book review: Plain Truth

Monday, August 1, 2011

The Plain Truth is a novel by Jodi Picoult that portrays what true love and sacrifices really mean, and how they can go hand in hand. The filled with suspense story begins when a young Amish girl from the small town of Paradise, Pennsylvania is accused of killing her baby, a baby that she denies having although the biology of her body says otherwise.

I don’t want to give the story away; instead I am going to tell you why you should read it:

After reading this book, I reconsidered the things we do for love. The things we do because we want to fit in, desperately. The things we do because we are afraid of loneliness, and of the unknown.

The title of this book does it justice; the Plain Truth reminds you that one can be surrounded by people and still be alone, that those who belong to social groups where they are not accepted for who they are, those are the loneliest of all. Sacrificing your actions, your whole being to fit in with the crowd means you are saying no to all the possibilities of true love and sincere appreciation. After all, true love is accepting, judgement-free, and requires no change.

So... if you have time for another summer read, this one is a must.
